Clean Ups

ABOUT VOLUNTEERING

Certified River Rats

Help us keep the Coosa clean!

Looking for an opportunity to help keep the River clean? We encourage self-led clean up opportunities through the use of our Clean Up Map! Working in a 5,000 square mile watershed leaves us with limited staff capacity. While our staff loves a good clean up, we rely on community members like YOU to really make an impact. Whether you’re taking on a smaller clean up by yourself, leading a scout troop, trying to plan a classroom outing, or just looking for a way to get your family outdoors and give back to the River; this map is for you.

We’re here to help you, help us, help the River! You can do a self-led clean up by following the instructions below, or participate in Coosa Riverkeeper’s monthly clean ups the last Saturday of each month!

General Info & Things to Note:

  • Most of the sites are red already because we couldn’t visit every one before the launch

  • If a site that’s red on the map is actually clean, please let us know and we will reflect that on the map.

  • The site colors change based on the very important “Post Clean Up Volunteer Survey”. When you select what site you cleaned, the map will automatically change it to green (may take a little while to reflect), in 3 months it will turn yellow as “needs to be checked”, and 3 months after that it will change from yellow to red.

  • We are working on adding a “Specialty” layer to the map for unique scenarios of reported trash not on the map, or clean ups that require a kayak/boat.
