Intern Highlight Takeover: The Greatest Show Woman, Amy.

With a staff of three full time employees, it is near impossible to get EVERYTHING we want accomplished.

That’s why we are forever grateful for our interns.

Intern Appreciation Paddle 2018

Especially our summer Swim Guide interns. Not a second of their time goes unnoticed to us, but it’s not as easy for y’all to get to know these amazing people as it is for us- so with that being said, let’s get to know our North Route Sampler, Amy.

About Amy

Amy is a Senior majoring in Public Health at UAB. She moved to Birmingham from Florida to pursue her academic dreams. On top of sampling for us,  Amy is the training director for Chick-fil-A. Amy & her fiancé recently adopted a black lab puppy, Luna, who is also a professional water sampler.

For fun, she enjoys cooking & singing…

Go Swim Club!

Luna doing what she does best, water quality sampling.

This is true, I have gotten to witness Amy’s rendition of “The Greatest Showman”.

It was beautiful.

Amy is so busy that she considers Thursday sampling her “relaxation time”.

A bit about her role-

Amy samples the North Route from Ashville to Ragland!

Her favorite stop is Hokes Bluff.

She has been a great addition to the team & we are so lucky to have her (and Luna) around!

Q&A with the Greatest Show Woman

Just a couple of river pals

Q: What is the funniest thing that has happened to you while sampling?

A: The funniest thing that has happened to me while sampling is when I had my picture taken of me laying on my stomach and in all kinds of crazy ways to get a sample from a pier. The sweet journalist stood awkwardly by as I tried to collect the sample.

Q: What is your favorite album to jam to while sampling?

A: It’s really a toss up between the Moana soundtrack and The Greatest Showman soundtrack. On stormy days, I definitely go for Moana while driving around.

Whirlin’ it up!

Q: What has been the most rewarding aspect of your internship?

A: The most rewarding aspect of my internship has been the relationships that I have gotten to build. I truly look forward to coming back to the office at the end of the sampling day to catch up with the staff and other interns. Everyone is always so helpful and nice, but the best part about them is that they are GENUINE people.

Q: What surprises you most about being a swim guide sampler?

A: What surprises me most is how much traveling is involved. I knew that I would be going all over northeast Alabama, but sometimes, it was more like a trip to Timbuktu.

Q: What is your favorite snack to eat while sampling?

A: My favorite snack to eat while sampling is dill pickle sunflower seeds.
